CsI Scintillation Crystals
Cesium Iodide - CsI -has good stopping power due to its high density and high Z, a fast decay time and a emission peaking at 320nm. CsI scintillators are one of the lowest cost fast scintillators.

Cesium Iodide - CsI scintillator crystals are:
  • Good absorbers with good stopping powers - density 4.51 g/cm³ and an Effective Z of 54
  • Are fast with a decay time of 16ns
  • Emitting with a 320nm peak
  • Robust with good mechanically characteristics

Cesium Iodide - CsI scintillator crystals have the following issues which should be noted. They are:
  • Relatively poor emitters - emitting 4,000 photons/MeV (5% of NaI(Tl))
  • Are slightly hygroscopic

Cesium Iodide - CsI scintillator crystals are useful in diverse applications such as:
  • Specialist applications in high energy, nuclear, space and medical physics
